Lock Haven University

Lock Haven University is located in the all-American small town of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania on the historic East Coast.

The important urban centers of New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. are only a few hours drive away.  Lock Haven itself is a small, safe town with a traditional atmosphere and a historic district with tree-shaded streets and immaculate Victorian homes.  Students will experience four distinct seasons, including a stunning display of colors in the fall when the tree leaves change colors.

Area Profile

Lock Haven is a small town located in central Pennsylvania surrounded by farms, natural beauty and historic sites.  Outdoor activities vary with the seasons and range from soccer and swimming to skiing and canoeing.  Students will experience the change of seasons and get a taste of traditional American life!  The area includes traditional Amish communities, where a way of life from hundreds of years ago is preserved.  On the weekends, venture out to the scenic state parks or join us for an overnight trip to Washington, D.C.!

Climate

Temperatures range from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius in the summer, and it can be humid. In the winter, temperatures range between 5 to 8 degrees Celsius. Lock Haven enjoys four distinct seasons, so expect snow in the winter, with an average of 10 inches of snowfall. Every fall brings a brilliant show of vivid colors with the changing autumn leaves.

English Language Programs

  • Super Intensive English Program

Our new Super Intensive English Program offers the most hours of live instruction per week available at any U.S. language school! For students intent on making the most of their time, this program offers 40 lessons of live instruction per week.

Your teacher will work with you for the entire 40 lessons! Unlike other programs, our Super IEP does not count ‘lab hours’ or other independent study periods as lessons.

Our program places an exceptional emphasis on speaking. Students practice speaking skills frequently in class, receiving regular guidance and correction from their instructor.

  • Intensive English Program

Our most popular program, the Intensive English Program includes 30 lessons (25 hours) of instruction per week from qualified, native-speaking teachers.

Your teacher will work with you for the entire 30 lessons! Unlike other programs, our IEP does not count ‘lab hours’ or other independent study periods as lessons.

Our program places an exceptional emphasis on speaking. Students practice speaking skills frequently in class, receiving regular guidance and correction from their instructor.

FLS Lock Haven University : Dormitory**

At FLS Lock Haven University we offer dormitory accommodation. Students are placed in the same dorm buildings as Lock Haven’s American students, allowing plenty of opportunities to practice English, make new friends and learn about American student life.

  • Students will share their dorm room with one other student. Students are not placed with a speaker of the same language unless by request.
  • Dormitory accommodation includes 19 meals per week in the campus dining facility, which offers a wide range of healthy, fresh food and an all-you-want eating plan.
  • Dormitory students have easy access to campus facilities and numerous on-campus events, including sports, lectures and music and theater performances.

Notes:

  • Accomodation is at students’ disposal from the Sunday before beginning of course until the Saturday morning following end of course.
  • Not included: Airfare and Airport transfers
