How does this work?
Upon successful completion of Cal America’s ESL or TOEFL programs and with teachers’ recommendations, Cal America students will be accepted to some of the most popular colleges and career schools without a TOEFL score or other standardized English proficiency tests. The following are some of the colleges Cal America has an agreement with:
Santa Monica College, Glendale Community College, El Camino College, West LA College, Los Angeles Trade-Tech College, Warner Pacific College, The Art Institute Portland, California Baptist University, Cleveland Chiropractic College, etc.
Authorizations and Affiliations
- Cal America is approved by the Bureau of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration services or USCIS (formerly known as INS) to accept and enroll foreign students and to issue I-20s to foreign students through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System or SEVIS.
- Cal America is an active member of The American Association of Intensive English Programs or AAIEP. All of our English courses are compatible with the AAIEP standards for post- secondary intensive English programs.
- Cal America Los Angeles is approved by Educational Testing Service or ETS to be an official testing center for the IBT-TOEFL and Institutional TOEFL exams.
- Cal America Long Beach is approved by ETS to be an official testing center for the IBT-TOEFL and TOEIC exams.
Our locations
Los Angeles: Cal America Education Institute’s Los Angeles campus is located on Wilshire Boulevard, one of the most important streets in the heart of Los Angeles. CAEI is on the second floor of the Wilshire Park Place Building, just one block east of Western Avenue, between Serrano Avenue and Oxford Avenue. With such a central location, it is easy to reach this campus by public transportation, either by Metro or by bus.

Long Beach Branch: Cal America Education Institute’s Long Beach campus is found in the central tourist district of Long Beach. CAEI’s Long Beach campus is located within Hancock University, only a minute walk from buses and the Metro. This location is a mere ten minutes from the beach and just 45 minutes from Los Angeles.

English Courses in California
ESL
Our ESL (English as a Second Language) courses cover grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The classes are designed to meet the needs of individuals who wish to improve their English skills for academic, personal, or professional reasons. To accommodate every student’s English language level, we offer five different levels of ESL from Beginning to Advanced.
Course schedule
- 18 hours per week
- Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-12:35pm
TOEFL/IELTS
Our TOEFL IBT/IELTS seminar includes both subjects at an affordable price. The seminar employs intensive, cutting edge techniques to help students achieve extraordinary results.
Alumni from the seminar have been accepted to the University of Southern California (USC), the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Boston University, the University of California, Berkeley, Whittier Law School, and the American Film Institute (AFI) to name just a few.
Our INTENSIVE ESL course is the ESL program with the addition of an intensive afternoon elective course. The intensive classes include Accent Reduction and Pronunciation, Vocabulary and Writing. We recommend this program for students looking to further improve their English language skills beyond the 18 hour a week ESL program.

Accommodation options in California
Homestay*
Cal America offers homestay accommodations with English-speaking host families. Our carefully selected and experienced host families are located within reasonable commuting distance from the school. Residing with a host family can help you improve your communication skills as you also get accustomed to American culture.
Homestay includes a private bedroom with a bed, linens, desk, closet or dresser, shared bathroom and 2 meals per day (breakfast and dinner). Most of our host families have wireless internet available.
Dormitory**
Cal America can arrange reasonable dormitory stay within walking distance from our school. The rooms are furnished and shared with 2 to 4 students. A meal-inclusive option (two meals per day) is available upon request. Wireless internet available
Included: Shared bedroom, bathroom, common use living room, kitchen and laundry room
- Accommodation is at students’ disposal from the Sunday before beginning of course until the Saturday morning following end of course.
- Not included: airfare, airport transfers, course materials, medical insurance
