In the past Orbetello was an important harbor and an ancient commercial center. The center of the town still evokes the old Etruscan age with its lovely squares and small, quiet roads without traffic in which you can find bars, restaurants or even theatrical performances.

Just a few kilometers away, easily reachable by bus or bicycle, you can find untouched nature with overwhelming beauty like the Maremma Natural Park, the wetlands and bird protection areas of the WWF, the mountain Argentario or the two gold colored sand stripes Feniglia and Gianella – the local inhabitants call them Tomboli – surrounding the lagoon and reaching out to the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The Feniglia dune with its length of over six kilometers in the southeast of Orbetello is a natural reserve with old pine woods and Mediterranean velds.

With its numerous paths you can easily explore the area by bicycle or just walking, but it is also a marvelous location to go swimming, windsurfing, running or just enjoying this natural paradise and watch the many water birds living in this zone.

Just outside of the town you can reach Cape Argentario that is connected with the Tuscan coast by these two dunes. A lovely road leads along the coast with breathtaking views on rugged limestone cliffs with Mediterranean velds. Walking down the peaceful hills you can find several small beaches surrounded by emerald green water.

Several boat charters offer the possibility to reach the islands of Giglio and Giannutri from Mount Argentario in less than an hour. In the vicinity you can also admire other islands along the archipelago and the coast of the Maremma National Park, a protected area for sea animals that is probably one of the best places for people who love to enjoy the water.

The lagoon town of Orbetello is for sure one of the best places to attend an exciting Italian and sports course in Italy.

Although the town is located in such a unique place, surrounded by the sea, it is nevertheless quite central, making it easy to reach the important cities of art, archeology and history like Florence, Siena, Pisa, but also Rome.
