New Horizon College of English was started in 1989 to give students the opportunity to get to know the real New Zealand outside the main cities. They can experience the beauty, tranquility and genuine friendliness of New Zealand people and improve their English language with more chances to have contact with New Zealanders.
The school is small and friendly with student numbers between 40 and 75 depending on the season. The average class size is only 8 students with a maximum of 12, so everyone is treated as an individual and the staff have time to chat and answer questions. A wide range of nationalities is always present so students can make friends from all over the world.
We have created a unique family atmosphere by organising a wide range of activities after school and at weekends. An English-only policy in the school building also ensures everyone is included from their first day.
Facilities
The school is located in the centre of the city, one block from the sea. The library and bus stop are across the street and there is a variety of cafes and restaurants nearby. The school has 9 classrooms and a huge student activity room as well as a self-study centre and computer room.
