THE SCHOOL:
Italian School in Italy recognized by the University of Siena, the Italian School in Italy is run by a cooperative of teachers. It was founded in 1986.
ORBETELLO
Surrounded by its lagoon, Orbetello was an important Etruscan port and the home of trade between ancient civilizations. Its historical, urban and natural features provide the ideal conditions for meeting local people, as well as guaranteeing quality of life, making it just the place for a language school.
The old town centre was originally organized to provide a functional setting for everyday life of the townsfolk. The same places where people used to meet within the Etruscan walls are still in use today. The little piazzas and quiet lanes with their bars and restaurant tables come to life in the evenings, with street theatres and concerts that are open to everyone. The warm Mediterranean air provides encourages one to stop and mingle with others.
This is the rich setting in which you’ll find the Italian school TERRAMARE.
The close contact with the everyday life of the town gives students many opportunities to hear and use everyday Italian, and creates a close interaction between the language learnt in school, and practice in the local community. Terramare is, in fact, a responsive school capable of transforming local cultural events, plays and shows into enjoyable learning situations for further Italian language study and social activities.

Italian Classes
Classes are always small at the Italian School in Italy with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 students, divided into 6 levels (as described in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
In the morning (9.00 am to 1.00pm Monday to Friday) there are general Italian lessons with activities to encourage the practical application of the language and the analysis of form and structure with the aim of fully involving each student in their own linguistic and cultural development.
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES:
The school organizes cultural activities which take place three times a week:
• Two afternoons a week we organize cultural meetings on a variety of subjects (Italian songs, cinema, theater, history, art and literature etc.)
• Once a week included in the General Language and Culture Course, there are trips to the local nature reserves and parks, to the islands off the Tuscan coast, archaeological sites and old medieval town centers.
The direct contact with the many different aspects of the Italian environment combines the ease of acquiring specific areas of vocabulary with the enjoyment of exploring the local nature and history.
Cultural activities are aimed at exploring the Italian way of life, cuisine, traditions, cultural events and places where Italians meet other people. MEETING OTHER PEOPLE IN AND AROUND ORBETELLO IS REALLY EASY.
All the typical meeting places are within a minutes walking distance, and nature is at hand all around us. In fact, in the afternoon students often arrange to meet up at one of the nearby beaches: the Duna, the Feniglia* or at one of the little bays around Monte Argentario* just a short bike ride away. In the evening they meet up in the local “bars”, pizzerias, restaurants or piazzas.
