ALCE is a medium-sized family run school and officially recognized examination centre for CILS (Certificate of Italian as a foreing language) and Authorized Exam Prepration Center for DITALS (The Certificate for Teachers of Italian as a foreign language) that specialises in teaching the Italian language, providing overseas students with a comprehensive educational and cultural experience within a friendly and encouraging environment.
One thing has and never will change and that is our insistence on the same high standards and the same warm welcome we gave when we started.
We work constantly to guarantee this and to maintain the quality on which our reputation is founded (maximum 8 students per class, personal attention, and balanced international mix of nationalities).

Our school location
Located in the prestigious Santo Stefano district and less than 500metres from the historic centre it is serviced by some of the main bus routes.

Our school facilities
A.L.C.E. is centred in a recently refurbished nice building with a total of 11 classrooms (including 4 smaller studios (for individual classes) with a capacity of around 75 students. The media centre house a total of
12 personal computers, providing free high-speed internet connection in addition to the free wi-fi access available.
There is a wide selection of resources including up to date books, CDs and multimedia material.
ALCE is well recognised both within Italy and internationally as a first class language school. Our established syllabus is compliant with the C.E.F.R. (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and we are an officially endorsed C.I.L.S.
(Certificazione di Italiano come Lingua Straniera – Certificate of Italian as a Second Language) examination centre an accreditation conferred by UNISTRASI (Siena University for Foreigners).
Also, from 2012, is an Authorized Exam Prepration Center for DITALS (The Certificate for Teachers of Italian as a foreign language).
A.L.C.E. is is proud to be a full member of IALC (International Association of Language Centres). Furthermore we are affiliated with EDUITALIA (consorzio per la promozione della lingua e cultura italiana) and are recognised by numerous bodies throughout Europe including CSN in Sweden (student financial aid agency) and for Bildungsurlaub in Germany (7 Lands).

Course information and details
The wide range of courses available at A.L.C.E. including intensive, business and examination courses are offered to students from the age of 17 years, cater to all levels and are run year-round.
We take pride in our excellent teacher/student ratio with a maximum class size of eight students and an average of three to five students ensuring individual attention.
All year round, with any number of students (from 1 to 8), we run our Italian language and culture courses. We NEVER REDUCE the number of class hour.
The main courses:
- GI23 INTENSIVE
These courses consist of four hours of lessons per day, from 9.00 to 13.15, Monday to Friday, plus (at least) 3 hours (1 afternoon class of conversation or phonetic – of 120 minutes – and 1 afternoon grammar workshop – from 60 to 90 minutes.
Groups will consist of a minimum of three and a maximum of eight students, and include a programme of excursions and activities.
- GI30 SUPER INTENSIVE
Super Intensive Courses
This course consists of six hours of lessons per day, from 9.00 to 13.15 and from 14.00 to 16.00, from Monday to Friday. When are enrolled less than 2 students at the same level, we guarantee, at the same price, 5 one to one afternoon classes per week.
A.L.C.E. guarantees first rate accommodation, either in our directly managed residence, self-contained apartments or home-stay options
Bilbo House is the only accommodation option managed directly by ALCE and it is a perfect solution for students who wish to live more independently, yet being part of a “family” group of international students (Italians included).
Bilbo House apartments contain 8 bedrooms in total and include following facilities:
- fully equipped kitchen
- shared bathroom and toilet
- washing machine (free of charge)
- common area (an open space living /dining area)
- Wi-Fi (free of charge)
- Air-conditioning (small extra charge)
All of our host families are carefully selected and are checked regularly.
This option includes half-board (breakfast and lunch or dinner) or self-catering (only use of kitchen). Students eat a main meal with the family and are therefore brought naturally into contact with everyday Italian life.
Cleaning and laundry services are included; Maximum distance: 20/25 minutes walking distance (average 10/15) or 10/15 minutes bus ride
Private 1/2 bedroom flats are available, suggested to couples, families, friends; all within walking distance
