The General English course at LTC LTC

Our General English course focuses on establishing a foundation in the language. The course runs at a very good pace and mainly caters for those who are serious about improving their English.

The material used in this course is sourced from one of the leading universities in the world.  It covers the four main language skills; speaking, listening, reading and writing.  These language skills play an important part in developing as a learner, and the classroom activities are varied, so that each area is equally developed.

Speaking

Our classes have a maximum of 8 students, which allows for a fair opportunity for each student to practice their speaking in the classroom.

Students do a lot of pair work and group activities to allow for peer learning, and the students also receive personalized feedback from teachers.

Listening

Audio playback allows for students to practice their listening skills.  From these exercises, the student has a chance to listen for the gist, as well as for details in a recording.

To take part in classroom discussions, students have an opportunity to interact through listening and responding to questions from their classmates and their teachers.

Reading LTC Capetown

Our students take part in reading on a daily basis to assist with developing this skill.  The articles are up-to-date and often spark interesting conversation.

Students then have to read the text, search for details and also convey their opinions on a specific text.  The school also has a growing library that caters for all levels of English.

Writing

Most of the writing involved in our courses starts with the understanding of the grammar in the course.  The books have detailed guidelines for the grammar in the course and the teacher assists with any difficulties.

Students are issued with homework on a daily basis, and there are plenty of chances to practice the writing in class and at home.

Course overview

The educational standards are high at LTC and the student’s development is closely monitored.   We offer personalized weekly reports and our students have to take an exam to receive one of our accredited attendance certificates.

Our General English classes run from Monday to Friday and start at 9am to 12:30pm, with a 30-minute break in the middle.

The school has a very strict English Only policy, which grants you the opportunity to develop even quicker.  Our students come from various corners of the world, and this opens the door to learning about other cultures, making business contacts and also gives you the opportunity to make new friends.  If you are serious about studying English, then the General English course is for you.

Being in an English speaking country also allows you to practice what you are learning on a daily basis.  Language learning can be a challenge, but when you are committed to your own learning, then the General English course at LTC is the perfect opportunity to develop this.
