Holy Child Language School

The Holy Child is a seven-minute walk from the town’s shopping area, which means our students can stroll into the centre everyday and practice their English in a true-to-life environment.

Excursions organised by the College

Included in the fee for four-week courses are daytrips to London, Canterbury and Brighton, and the two- and three-week courses include two daytrips, one to London and the other to Canterbury or Brighton.

There is also the option of Sunday daytrips, which are not included in the course fee. The cities visited are Cambridge, Oxford and Windsor.

Each teacher organises a weekly half-day trip with their class to places of great charm that are near to Hastings, such as Rye, Battle, Eastbourne and Ashford.

The English Course in Hastings Consists of:

  • General English Course in Hastings: 15 lessons of 50 minutes
  • Intensive English Course in Hastings: 25 lessons of 50 minutes
  • Up to a maximum of 13 students per class (Average: 9 students)
  • Students with some level of English will be able to start any Monday

  • An accompanying member of the organisation from the departure airport for groups of more than 10 students
  • Full board and lodge for the residential option. Home stay option for those aged over 13

  • The course fee is calculated based on a maximum airfare of €400. Should the actual fare be higher, parents will be required to pay the difference
  • The transfer between the airport and the College when students have made their own travel arrangements and their arrival does not coincide with the transport organised for group travel
  • The optional daytrips to Oxford, Cambridge and Windsor
  • The half-day outings to Rye, Battle, Eastbourne and Ashford
  • Golf and horse-riding
  • A twenty-pound deposit collected from each student upon their arrival that is returned to them on the last day provided they have not caused any damage.

Sports and activities

Activities are an essential part of our programme

The use of the sports facilities at the Holy Child is completely free. Only horse-riding at the Petley Wood Equestrian Centre and golf at the Sedlescombe Golf Club incur an additional charge not included in the cost of the course.

Most of the activities are organised by the Activities Trainers, English-speaking monitors who hold them in English.

Social Events held at the College

As with the sports activities, social events are a mainstay of our programme. The collaboration of monitors and the involvement of students create a magical environment at the College that is hard to find anywhere else. There are 2 academic programmes.

Classic Programme:

  • 25 hours of classroom English per week, held during the morning and afternoon
  • Classes of 13 students grouped according to different levels of English
  • Option of taking a Trinity Examination on four-week courses, with the cost included in the fee

Standard Programme:

  • 15 hours of classroom English per week, held during the morning
  • Classes of 13 students grouped according to different levels of English
  • Each class lasts 60 minutes

Our teachers are handpicked native English-speakers, who not only know how to teach but are also expected to be outgoing and dynamic, as they spend many hours with the same group of students.

Upon arrival at the school students take a level test so the groups are formed according to each one’s level of English, with no more than 13 students in each class

The Holy Child lends each student a text book (which is to be returned at the end of the course), and gives them a notebook and pen.

ACCOMMODATION : Residential & Homestay


There are various accommodation options , in all cases with separate buildings for boys and girls. We have dormitories for  one, two, four or more students. Choice of domitories is strictly on a first-come, first served basis.

Full Board and services

Students receive Full Board and lodging with breakfast, lunch and supper. This also includes a laundry service with clother being collected aproximately once a week. Students are required to bring their own towel, but bed linen is provided.

The toilet and shower areas are spacious and although they are shared they are designed to ensure our students´ privacy.

There is a banking service for depositing any money or items of value they may have.


Host family with the College´s  support.

The Host families option is the right one for those who want to learn more about English customs and the local way of life. It is designed for students over the age of 13 , who as teenagers may expect a greater degree of freedom .

All families are inspected beforehand by staff from the HOLY CHILD to make sure they fulfil our minimum requirements and so avoid unwanted surprises.

All the families live nearby,if the journey will take no more than 15 minutes and they will be given a free bus pass.
