We offer English Language and other courses to overseas students. We also have British students studying for the UK national examinations.
We are a small, fully accredited and friendly college situated in the elegant spa town of Harrogate in a beautiful part of the North of England. The college is located in safe and attractive surroundings close to extensive parkland. We are a ten-minute walk from the town centre.

The college was founded in 1981 to provide high quality education in an informal social atmosphere.
International students have the opportunity to improve their academic subjects as we offer a Link Course, which combines English with GCSE and A level subjects for entrance to university degree and higher degree courses.
College accommodation includes science laboratories, library, computer suite with free broadband Internet access, self-access facilities and common room with snack facilities.
The Classes
As classes are small you receive a lot of individual attention and make rapid progress. We use communicative teaching techniques, modern course books which are loaned to students, computers, audio, video and IT equipment. All the language skills are developed in an active learning environment. A college certificate is given to students at the end of the course.
The teaching hour is 55 minutes with a 5-minute break.

English 15
15 hours per week General English.
English 24
24 hours per week General English, or a combination of General English and options (eg Business English or English for Academic Purposes).
Summer School
We offer a variety of programs which combine English classes with an interesting range of sporting, social and cultural activities. The excursions and social activities allow participants to explore the countryside and cultural heritage of Britain and to practice English in less formal situations. All activities are escorted and supervised by members of staff.
- Starting date Any Monday. Duration: minimum of 2 weeks.
- Age Adults 17 years and over, Juniors 12-16 years.
- Class Size 14 maximum adults, 10 maximum juniors, average 8 students.
A General Program
15 hours per week English and a full program of sports, activities and visits. Activities include riding, swimming, tennis, ten-pin bowling, mini golf and skating. One full-day and one half-day excursions, per week, to places of interest.
B English and Riding
15 hours English and 3 afternoons riding tuition per week at the Harrogate Riding Centre in Burnbridge. Students learn about schooling, grooming and general care of horses. Hacking and trekking are also available. The riding school is BHS approved.
C English and Tennis
15 hours English and 3 afternoons per week with professional coaching at local courts. All coaches are LTA approved. Individual coaching is also available.
D Intensive English
24 hours English per week. The content of the afternoon classes will depend on students’ requirements.
E English and English for Specific Purposes
15 hours English and 9 hours specialist English relevant to the students’ interests. Options include computing, business, scientific or technical English, which are offered subject to sufficient demand.
F English and the Internet
15 hours English and 9 hours Information Technology. This course includes introduction to Windows 2000, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email and the Internet. Our students have their own website.
Accommodation and Welfare
We have excellent host families*. You are accepted as a member of the family and have many opportunities for more practise in English. The cost includes single room with half board weekdays and full board at weekends. Summer school students are given a packed lunch on weekdays.
Our Accommodation Officer keeps in close contact with our students and host families. She is available to discuss and help with any problems you may have.
You are met on arrival in England, taken to your host family, and given an information pack. On your first day in college you are taken around the town and shown the places you need to know.
If you need airport transfers, please contact the college. We advise you to fly to Leeds-Bradford airport (15km) via Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, London and Dublin, or to Manchester Airport.
We recommend that all students take out travel, medical and possessions insurance. the college can also do this when you arrive.
- Accommodation is at students’ disposal from the Sunday before beginning of course until the Saturday morning following end of course.
