Centre of English Studies – CES Worthing is located on the quiet street of Stoke Abbott Road, a 5 minute walk to the town centre of Worthing. All the best shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs are also with an easy 5-10 minute stroll from the school.
CES Worthing is in our own large Victorian building, a short walk from the station, the town centre and the sea. Every classroom has audio-visual aids, including TV and video. There is a students’ lounge with wide-screen TV, table tennis and two gardens where students can sit or picnic on sunny days.
Outside class hours, you can study privately in the self-access library and use the free internet café to send and receive e-mail and browse the Internet free of charge. A teacher is available to help with your self study and to help you select appropriate materials including CDs, books and cassettes.
Worthing is an attractive seaside town of 100,000 people on England’s South Coast. It’s located only 10 minutes from Brighton and 1 hour and 15 minutes from the center of London by train.
Worthing’s famous 8km long promenade provides a wonderful place to walk in the afternoon or evening and there are many other attractions near the pier as well. There is also a large indoor swimming pool close by. However, many visitors prefer to swim in the clear, clean sea which the English Royal family have used for relaxation over the centuries.
The Victorian architecture that stretches the length of the promenade gives Worthing its dignified feel. The town center is full of shops, cafes, restaurants, high street stores and a wide range of leisure and sporting activities, yet it is a place where people have time to talk and it is easy to feel at home here and make new friends.
All along the south coast there are many beautiful and famous places to visit, all within an hour of Worthing town itself. Worthing is also located beside the famous South Downs. This area has been designated an area of natural beauty and is of historic significance. There are many famous landmarks on the Downs, including the famous chalk carved figure “The Long Man of Wilmington“.
The town of Worthing is well known – Oscar Wilde wrote his classic play “The Importance of being Ernest” there in the summer of 1894. All in all, the town has an atmosphere of relaxation and of an unhurried lifestyle. We are the only British Council Accredited school in Worthing.
