Teacher Training Courses at Anglo-Continental
Anglo-Continental is an approved Training Centre for the University of Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). Full-time, Part-time and Online (blended learning) Courses are available.
The CELTA Qualification is the essential qualification for native English Teachers entering the English Language Teaching profession. The course does not assume any previous teaching experience.
The CELTA course covers the basic principles of teaching vocabulary, grammar, phonology, speaking, listening, reading and writing, as well as how to correct students’ errors and how to manage the class. Of course, you will learn many other things, but these are the basic areas of language teaching.
The full-time course lasts for 4 weeks and consists of 120 hours of instruction, observation and teaching practice programmed between 0845 and 1700 hours, Monday to Friday, and up to 60 hours of home study, lesson planning and assignment writing. All participants will also be required to observe 6 hours of lessons at Anglo-Continental.
The part-time course lasts for 16 weeks and consists of 120 hours of instruction, observation and teaching practice programmed between 16.30 – 20.30 hours, on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and up to 60 hours of home study, lesson planning and assignment writing. All participants will also be required to observe 6 hours of lessons at Anglo-Continental.
Online (Blended Learning) Course
The Online CELTA Course is based on the part-time model.
However, instead of coming into the centre premises to do both input sessions and to do your teaching practice, you will do the input sessions online, working through multimedia materials, doing interactive tasks, discussing topics with other course participants and your tutor in forums and collaborating with other course participants in a virtual classroom.
Teaching practice, feedback, supervised lesson planning and live observation will require coming into the centre once a week.
The course lasts for 16 weeks and includes an online orientation course lasting 6 hours. This latter short course will orientate you to the Virtual Learning Environment and will also get you thinking about aspects related to the learning and teaching of English.
