Maple Leaf Academy

Welcome to Maple Leaf Academy Maple Leaf Academy

Maple Leaf Academy (MLA) has long provided English Skills to new immigrants to Canada in the Language Instruction to New Comers (LINC) program. This experience has provided the school with a focus on language skills for life in an English Speaking country.

For the international student, who will bring his/her English skills back to his or her own country, this provides a unique opportunity to learn language skills that are aimed not only at communicating effectively, but for real life in an English-speaking country.

Each day, students are exposed to multiple teachers focusing on different areas, giving them exposure to different variations of English skills found in North America, as well as the area of expertise offered by the teachers.

Because the majority of our students over the past 20 years have started new lives in Calgary, the English skills the have learned at MLA have been used at Canadian universities and colleges, professions in Canadian companies as well as every day life in Canada.

Established in 1991, Maple Leaf Academy (MLA) has become highly recognized for its innovative approaches to language instruction.

Our school is unique in the Calgary area, because students receive specialized instruction by a variety of teachers. The staff at Maple Leaf Academy is all experienced teachers and come from a variety of different backgrounds. Some members of our staff include a professional writer, a highly recognized dramatist, a published pronunciation expert, and a former editor of the Calgary Herald.

Maple Leaf Academy’s small class sizes (15:1 student to teacher ratio) enable our staff to deal with students in a quick and effective manner. Our small class sizes provide students and staff alike with the ideal atmosphere to create an interactive and cooperative learning environment.

The addition of multi-media technology to our school ensures that every student will receive current, cutting edge methods of instruction. This technology allows students to talk into the computer and for the computer to help students analyze where their language problems lie. Multi-media technology will greatly increase the rates at which students improve their listening, sound discrimination, and pronunciation skills used in the English language.

We are located in the heart of downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada (less than two hours from Banff and Lake Louise by car) on the 2nd floor of 731- 6th Ave SW.

Calgary

Calgary, the fifth largest city in Canada and the biggest one in Alberta province, is the place with many names. When you come to Calgary, you soon know you’ve arrived at a special place. You are in the “Heart of the Canadian West”. You have entered the”Gateway to the Rockies”. You are also at the “Oil Capital of Canada”, the “City of Foothills”, as well as the “Host City of the 1988 Olympic Games”. As if that weren’t enough, when you go to the Calgary Stampede, you can see the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”.

Activities

While each season in Calgary has its own appeal, winter and summer months overflow with things to do and see. In winter, outdoor enthusiasts flock to Calgary to partake in the pleasures of ice-skating, tobogganing, and skiing (cross-country and downhill), or to participate in the various winter festivals in the area.

Summer weather lures those who prefer canoeing, sailing, hiking, cycling, ballooning, golfing, or in-line skating. And of course, the world-famous Calgary Stampede attracts over a million visitors annually when it takes over the city for ten days in July.
